Fender Custom Shop’s Limited-edition ’61 Telecaster Relic is a painstaking re-creation of a golden era Tele. It has a 2-piece alder body for a lightweight and resonant tonal foundation. Next, it’s loaded with two hand-wound pickups: a Twisted Tele in the neck and an Original Blackguard in the bridge — both offering all the twangy Tele goodness you can imagine. A quarter-sawn maple neck and Oval “C” profile sit solidly in your hand as you navigate up and down the rosewood fingerboard. Finally, the Limited-edition ’61 Telecaster Relic comes dressed up in a relic’d finish. And in 1961, the Telecaster’s simple lines and versatile tones were only enhanced by Fender’s outstanding crew of instrument builders. The Limited-edition ’61 Telecaster Relic harkens back to that time in history with its period-correct specs, materials, and construction methods. The finish is even aged to simulate life on the road — it’s as if it racked up countless gigs and road scars before reaching your hands.
Hand-wound pickups deliver outstanding tones
Plug the Limited-edition ’61 Telecaster Relic into your favorite tube amplifier, and the pickups will make quite the impression. In the neck position, a high-output Twisted Tele pickup practically rips through the speaker. Meanwhile, when you switch to the bridge, the Original Blackguard Tele pickup pumps out enough twang to tear the wallpaper off the walls. Both pickups were wound by hand in the Fender Custom Shop, adding another personalized touch and ensuring that each has its own distinctive voice.
A neck you’ll fall in love with
The builders in the Fender Custom Shop equipped the Limited-edition ’61 Telecaster Relic with a ’60s-style maple neck carved into an Oval “C” profile. That neck profile offers balanced performance from the first position up to the highest frets. And since the neck is constructed from ultra-stable quarter-sawn maple, it’s less prone to warping under string tension. Finally, your fingers will delight at the rosewood fingerboard’s 9.5-inch radius and 21 narrow tall frets.
