Long before EarthQuaker Devices earned its status as one of the world’s premier boutique builders, the company began life as a humble 1-man operation out of Jamie Stillman’s Akron, Ohio home. The EarthQuaker Devices Disaster Transport Delay Modulation Machine delay pedal is a reissue of one of the company’s very first creations from that era, an experimental but eminently usable modulation-heavy, analog-style delay that makes it abundantly clear just why EarthQuaker Devices rose so quickly to pedal prominence. This pedal’s delay section has been twisted and tweaked from the original, supplying you with a cleaner mixing section, boosted output, and up to 600ms of far more authentic analog-style echo. The footswitchable modulation section also boasts a significant reimagining by swapping out the old configuration for two sets of 3-way switches, and an Intensity knob take you from a subtle chorus-y splash to seriously twisted tones. It’s all finished with a comprehensive set of function upgrades, including a reduced noise floor, improved output, and a cleaner mixing section. From simple slapback to ghostly ambient soundscapes, the Disaster Transport Delay Modulation Machine’s ethereal echo does it all in EarthQuaker Devices signature eclectic style.

Reimagined ramp wave modulation section

Considering that this pedal markets itself as a “Modulation Machine,” it comes as little surprise that the Disaster Transport Delay Modulation Machine’s ramp wave modulation gives you a far more intense modulation potential than almost any other delay pedal. How does it work? After you stomp on the Disaster Transport Delay Modulation Machine’s dedicated modulation footswitch, you’re greeted with two switches to set your tone: Mod Speed and Mod Mode. The former offers three notches to dial in the rate of your modulation — slow, fast, and medium — while the 2-way Mod Mode switch allows you to choose the traditional chorus-style modulation of Bend and the wilder pitch-stretching Stretch setting. Finally, you also get an Intensity knob that determines to what degree the LFO modulates your delay.
