Solid State Logic Fusion Analog Master Processor

The SSL Fusion is a 2U fully analogue stereo outboard processor built for the modern hybrid studio, offering five discrete processing sections in a single rackmount chassis: Vintage Drive harmonic enhancer, Violet EQ, HF Compressor, Stereo Image, and a custom-designed SSL Transformer. Each circuit operates independently and can be engaged selectively, allowing the Fusion to serve as a gentle finishing processor, a colourful stem enhancer, or a full-chain analogue mix-bus stage depending on how much of the signal path is engaged.

The Vintage Drive section generates non-linear harmonic saturation and soft compression by overloading an analogue circuit, with interacting Drive and Density controls that move through subtle thickening to more aggressive distortion — tri-colour LEDs indicate the harmonic intensity being introduced. The Violet EQ is SSL’s first new analogue EQ circuit in over 25 years: a minimum phase-shift, two-band shelving design with four switchable frequency points per band and ±9 dB of gain, voiced to quickly add low-end weight and high-end air. The HF Compressor addresses high-frequency harshness with tape-like transparency — it acts only above the set threshold frequency, rounding transients without affecting the midrange. The Stereo Image enhancer uses a true analogue Mid-Side circuit to widen or narrow the stereo field, and the switched Transformer section introduces low-frequency saturation and a high-frequency phase shift for simultaneous bass thickening and top-end sparkle.

Utility functions include ±12 dB input and output trim controls, a front-panel 3rd-order high-pass filter with 30, 40, or 50 Hz cut-off points, peak-hold stereo metering switchable between input and output, and a stereo XLR insert loop that can be configured as a standard stereo insert or as a true Mid-Side insert — switchable to different points in the signal chain. Maximum input and output levels reach +27.5 dBu at 1% THD, ensuring the Fusion maintains the headroom expected of a professional mastering-grade processor.
