Description

Focusrite RedNet D16R MkII 16×16 Dante Digital Audio Interface

The Focusrite RedNet D16R MkII is a professional 1U rackmount 16-channel bi-directional AES3 digital interface for Dante audio-over-IP networks, engineered for broadcast, live sound, post-production, and large-format studio environments where network audio reliability and redundancy are non-negotiable. The unit provides 16 channels of AES3 input and 16 channels of AES3 output to and from the Dante network, carried over two DB25 multipin connectors configured to the AES59 standard — each handling eight channels of AES3 I/O. Additional connectivity includes XLR ports for alternate two-channel AES3 I/O and DARS input, RCA phono ports for two-channel S/PDIF I/O, and BNC Word Clock input and output for synchronisation to a house clock or for distributing the Dante network clock to external equipment.

A key differentiator of the MkII is full redundancy across both power and network. Dual internal PSUs with locking IEC inlets provide auto-switchover power protection, while dual locking EtherCON connectors support primary and secondary Dante network connections — also with automatic failover. This dual-redundancy architecture makes the D16R MkII suitable for mission-critical broadcast and live production deployments where any single point of failure is unacceptable. Front-panel LED indicators give at-a-glance visibility of PSU status, network connectivity, sample rate, signal presence, and clock source.

Sample rate conversion is available on every input channel, allowing external AES3 equipment running at different sample rates to interface seamlessly with the Dante network. Supported sample rates span 44.1kHz through 192kHz at 24-bit, with clock sources including internal, Word Clock, DARS, individual AES input pairs, or the Dante network master. The input SRC delivers greater than 138dB dynamic range with THD+N below –130dB. Per-channel input and output trim (–78 to 0dB in 1dB steps) is controlled via Focusrite’s RedNet Control software, with full Dante routing managed via Dante Controller. The unit is fully compatible with all Focusrite RedNet and Red interfaces, as well as the entire Dante-enabled device ecosystem from hundreds of manufacturers.
