Focal Alpha 80 Evo 8-Inch Powered Studio Monitor (Each)

The Focal Alpha 80 Evo 8-Inch Powered Studio Monitor is the flagship of the Alpha Evo range — a full-size, two-way active nearfield monitor that extends low-frequency reproduction to 38Hz and reaches 106dB peak SPL, making it suitable for use as both a nearfield reference and a mid-field monitoring solution in larger studio environments. The 8-inch Slatefiber cone woofer — Focal’s proprietary transducer material combining recycled carbon fibre and non-woven thermoplastic polymer, manufactured entirely in-house in Saint-Étienne, France — provides the cone rigidity and low mass necessary for controlled, accurate bass reproduction at extended low frequencies. The 1-inch aluminium inverted dome tweeter, a defining element of Focal’s inverted dome philosophy, delivers detailed, extended high-frequency response to 22kHz. Together, they are driven by 115W of total Class-D bi-amplification (80W LF, 35W HF) — the most powerful amplifier stage in the Alpha Evo range.

Extended Low-Frequency Accuracy for Demanding Mix Environments

For engineers and producers who regularly make critical decisions about sub-bass, kick drum weight, and low-frequency mix balance, the Focal Alpha 80 Evo provides a level of low-end extension and accuracy that smaller monitors simply cannot replicate. The 38Hz lower limit means that bass guitar fundamentals, kick drum sub-frequencies, and sub-bass elements of electronic music are reproduced with genuine accuracy rather than rolled-off approximation. However, the Alpha 80 Evo is not merely a larger version of the smaller Alpha Evo monitors — at 106dB peak SPL, it is also capable of sustained monitoring at levels appropriate to professional mixing and mastering rooms. The rear-panel tone controls — LF shelving (±6dB ≤250Hz), HF shelving (±3dB across 4.5–35kHz), and sensitivity switch — allow fine-tuning for room acoustics, and balanced XLR, balanced TRS, and unbalanced RCA inputs cover every interfacing scenario. As a result, the Alpha 80 Evo is equally at home in a large project studio and a professional tracking or mixing room. Sold individually. Available at Marshall Music South Africa, the Focal Alpha 80 Evo is the reference choice for South African engineers who demand the most capable monitor in the Alpha Evo family.

Focal

Founded in 1979 in Saint-Étienne, France, Focal has spent more than four decades establishing itself as one of the world’s most respected manufacturers of professional studio monitors and high-end headphones. Under the Focal Professional banner, the company produces a comprehensive range of studio monitoring solutions — from the compact, project-studio-focused Alpha series through the critically acclaimed Solo6 Be and Twin6 Be powered monitors, to the flagship SM9 three-way reference monitor used in major recording facilities worldwide. Focal’s engineering philosophy centres on proprietary transducer technology developed and manufactured entirely in-house in France, including the iconic inverted dome tweeter, W-cone woofer technology (a sandwich construction combining glass tissue and foam for exceptional rigidity and low mass), and the Beryllium tweeter used in the Be series — one of the most transparent and precise high-frequency transducers available in any studio monitor at any price. The professional headphone range — including the Listen Professional and Spirit Professional — brings this same engineering rigour to personal monitoring, delivering studio-reference accuracy in a portable format. Marshall Music South Africa stocks the Focal Professional range for South African recording engineers, mix engineers, and producers who demand the highest standard of transducer accuracy in their monitoring environment.
