Marshall Music was started on 1 March 1986 by Jazz drummer John E Marshall (Johnny) after leaving Polliaks, bringing the Premier agency with him, an agency he has had since 1958. The company specialized in classic and marching instruments and fast became the top dealer. His son Dayne took up some of the reins as co-director in 1993 and got the company to start dealing and importing more pop/rock type equipment such as electric and acoustic guitars, bass guitars, and drum kits. The move worked and took the company ahead full steam into a new and larger area of the market.
In 1997 the company saw the opportunity to expand and meet a greater demand. Marshall Music hence moved to its current location in Woodmead commercial center where the store has since expanded to more than three times it original size becoming now one of the biggest musical instrument stores the country has ever know. At present the company boasts three wholesale divisions, Active and Music Power in JHB and MMG – Marshall Music Group – in Cape Town importing everything from guitars and amps, strings, straps and bags to drums and cymbals, sticks cases and spare parts to even grand pianos, uprights, violins, cellos, brass and woodwind instruments that are fed to any one of our four retail stores country wide.

At the Marshall Music Woodmead branch we hold all of the top names in the game like; SONOR, DW, PDP, PREMIER, MEINL, ESP, FENDER, IBANEZ, TAYLOR, TANGLEWOOD, TAKAMINE, WARWICK, HUGHES AND KETTNER, AMPEG, ASHDOWN, LINE 6, YAMAHA, SANDNER, CON-SELMER and MUCH more. We also hold a lot of professional PA equipment ranging from Speakers, amps, mixers, lighting, and everything else one would need to own a fully functioning live sound setup. We supply to Churches, Schools, Theaters, Band music venues, Restaurants, and hire companies covering all their PA and backline needs. We pride ourselves in selling quality PA like JBL, HK, QSC, PEAVEY, WHARFEDALE, MITO, YAMAHA and we guarantee every customer superior after sales service on all the products we sell. Marshall Music does a lot of trade with northern Africa having supplied full band and PA setups to countries as far up as Tanzania. We continue to export our goods afar and Gaborone in Botswana, Harare in Zim, Nambia, Limpopo and a few others hold regular customers of Marshall Music Woodmead.

Marshall Music house’s not only musical instruments but is a key player in the recording scene as a supplier of top pro studio gear. Marshall has the facilities to demo equipment and software and will soon have a dedicated recording studio. Currently we sell gear like software, microphones, preamps, monitors, synthesizers, vocal encoders, midi controllers…etc…We are authorized dealers of Steinberg, PropellerHead, M-AUDIO, KRK, YAMAHA, KORG and RODE to name but a few. We do all Steinberg products, Cakewalk Sonar, Pro-Tools M-powered as well as Sibielius, Native instruments, E-Jay, and Line 6 software. With these we have supplied many top institutions in Gauteng and continue to offer the best possible service having already become the preferred supplier to Damelins in: Centurion, Bramley, and Hatfield.
